Fundamental rules of Anterior Aesthetics
- Arch curvature. Does the curvature of the anteriors blend with that of posteriors when viewed from the incisal edge?
- Inclination of facial plane of teeth when viewed from the side should be the same as natural teeth on either side. Light should reflect forward not up or down.
- Midline should be vertical! Perpendicular to inter-ocular plane. (Interpupillory line)
- Incisal plane. Cuspid to cuspid should be parallel to interpupillory line.
- Smile should hove positive curvature. (No reverse smile lines!)
- Visible width of teeth should be close to golden proportion when viewed from midline. 1.6 (central) - 1 (lateral) - .6 (cuspid)
- Distal half of cuspid should not be visible from the midline.
- Length to width ratio should be about 75%.
- Contacts should extend to the tissue. No block triangles!
- Contacts should be located lingually in the gingivol 1/3 to help narrow the reflective surface of the neck of the tooth.
- Incisal embrasures become more open the further away from the midline they are.
- Function. Lateral excursions should be cuspid guided. Centric not high. Anterior disclusion should be smooth and logical.
- Axial inclination should focus toward midline!
- Prep design. The preparation shape and the marginal placement effect final color and contusion.
- Interproximal embrosures need to be open for illumination
