Hands-on Advance Anterior Aesthetic CourseThe goal of this Dental Education course will be to improve your multi tooth, anterior aesthetic skills. While many courses focus on single tooth matching and how to create a specific internal effect, this course will focus on the interaction of all of the anterior dentition with the lips, eyes and face of the patient.
The Dental Education course will focus on:
We start with a slide show and very informal discussion of my previous success and failures. We will discuss what we like and don't like about the cases shown and what could be improved. The slides are both clinical and laboratory based. By viewing close up photographs of clinical cases we will evaluate contours that are both pleasing and displeasing in the oral environment.
This information will influence how we contour our future cases as well as our Saturday wax-up.
We will also discuss clinical requirements for aesthetic successes. How gingival symmetry and prep design play a vital role in the outcome of a case, and how ovate pontic designs enhance the success of bridgework.
We will go through my techniques for fabrication and communication.
You will bring an eight-unit veneer case that is waxed to final contour and detail. Models will be shipped to you prior to the course. This is a case I have previously completed and have photographs and models of. The day will be spent refining the wax-up based upon the principals discussed in Friday night's presentation.
You will be provided with a single central pressed ceramic restoration. We will discuss how to achieve natural surface morphology utilizing diamond rotary contouring. We will cut back and re-layer this restoration to produce desired incisal effects. This will include the placement of stains and various porcelain powders to achieve these effects. We will demonstrate how to rubber wheel and diamond polish restorations to achieve a natural luster.
Remember: Aesthetic success is very rarely achieved accidentally! Rather it is usually the result of careful planning, detailed communication and teamwork between ceramist and clinician.
I promote a relationship of mutual respect and understanding between technicians and dentists as we work together toward a common goal of patient health and satisfaction. Both dentists and ceramists frequently attend my courses.
I consider this course a mandatory prerequisite for a clinical live patient treatment course which I am involved with, “The Beauty of a Smile,” .
